Recently I received a package of goodies from fellow artist Jessica Brogan. Among all the wonderful things in the box was a beautiful hand painted piece of cloth. When I thanked Jessica for the goodies she told me that what I thought was cloth was, in fact, a hand painted baby wipe. A baby wipe!
Now I use baby wipes for all kinds of things that have nothing to do with babies. They are great for removing paint from a canvas, cleaning brushes and fingers, cleaning rubber stamps, smooshing paint around, and blending colored pencils, just to name a few things. I had never thought to save them and turn them into a piece of art. They are actually quite spectacular. I will admit it has become sort of an obsession now. I have them drying all over the place.
I few days ago in a rubber stamp group that I belong to some posted a picture of a similar thing done with dryer sheets and then rubber stamps. I don't have any dryer sheets but thought that I could do the same thing with baby wipes and rubber stamps. So I pulled out my RubberMoon Art Stamps ( http://rubbermoon.com/ ) and went to work. Below are a couple of the better ones.
My first attempts were rather... well, bad. They are in the trash bin. You have to ink the stamp up heavily and really press down to get a nice image. I think the examples below turned out quite lovely. They will either go into my art journal or be sent to someone else in a package of "Happy Mail".
